Whether lite or dark skin, options inside are same except a one thing. Dark theme equalizers show numbers when sliding them but lite theme won't. I am unable to get realtek tray icon at startup though i installed it clean from m$ cab. I installed it so many times by removing it from driver store, using DDU etc. But no tray icon at startup. I executed RAVCpl64.exe to show it in controlpanel and using it to configure. My board is almost same as yours GA-78LMT-S2 with ALC1220 chipset. Liked its sound quality. Better than ALC88x series.

did you try removing & reinstalling the drivers without an internet connection (disconnect from the net while removing & installing HDA drivers)?  when there's an active internet connection, Win10 may install it's own Realtek audio driver version and overwriting the one you want to install.

----

anyways, there's been a lack of new HDA drivers lately (yup that "well" of new HDA driver releases has nearly dried up because of the current pandemic situation & Realtek can no longer produce them on a regular basis anymore)

nevertheless, I did find another new generic HDA FF00 X64 version - v6.0.8947.1 FF00 from this Lenovo page which was released earlier this August:

I will soon replace the 8940 FF00 HDA driver with this 8947 FF00 version on my relative's Dell Inspiron 580 machine

I installed m$ cab latest driver 6.0.8981 FF01 i think that is UAD driver.  I did all tricks to get tray icon from it but could not. When i executed RAVCpl64.exe it put sound manager in control panel. Sound manager tray icon only showing when i execute it from control panel. When i restart system, tray icon not loads. I changed windows tray settings to show that icon but failed. Finally i installed realtek sound manager control from m$ website to change settings. M$ drivers doesn't give tray icon by default as they want to use their own realtek control app separately downloaded from store.

This latest Lenovo 8947 FF00 driver looks good with clarity but missed a bit of bass punch in music. It gave me tray icon which is a happy thing.

I try this version and also one you posted at MDL ( lenovo UAD 6.0.9008 ) version.

edit:

Tested both
Lenovo 9008 version is for intel chipset.

8978 FF00 bass sounds better than 9003 UAD unofficial by pal1000.

the original source for the generic 8978 FF00 HDA driver is Lenovo from this link (in the code)

I just finished installing the 8978 FF00 HDA driver on my dad's Toshiba Satellite C55DT-A laptop a few days ago.
before that I was checking his laptop and GAAAHHHH the Win10 v1909 Home OS on there started downloading & auto installing updates on the Update settings window without my intervention [OH NO!] 14
fortunately, I immediately pressed the "airplane" button on the keyboard to put the laptop in Airplane mode (thus cutting off the wifi connection) and then used something like windows update blocker (wub) to stop the auto updates entirely and to clear the contents of the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ folder.

windows update blocker can be obtained here:
Code:

after emptying the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ folder and rebooting (with the wifi connection off since it was still in airplane mode), I then run windows update blocker again to enable most of the update services, then turn off airplane mode to restore the wifi connection and finally set the wifi/wlan connection to "metered"

I always have to remind myself to meter those internet connections (aka. set all ethernet/LAN & Wifi/WLAN connections to "metered") to cut down on unnecessary bandwidth usage and to stop some of the W10 auto updates.  reason why the Win10 OS started to download & install updates without my consent on the Toshiba laptop is because the connections were not "metered" earlier when I should have done that sooner or before installing a new Realtek HDA driver.

:sigh 17

just when I finally installed the generic 8978 FF00 HDA driver on my relative's Dell Inspiron 580 desktop PC yesterday 9/20 (and a few other PCs using HDA FFxx drivers), I recently learned that Station drivers has a generic 8988 FF00 HDA X64 driver available

Code:

however, the 64bit 8988 HDA FF00 driver is WHQL for Win10 x64 only and non-WHQL for pre-Win10 releases

maybe I'll update to this one around the end of September

Station drivers version of HDA worked well than supermicro link. There is small difference in size of both downloads.

RE: Realtek High Definition Audio Latest WHQL - erp-ster0 - 09-22-2020

I guess the Station driver link for 8988 FF00 works well for many regions as the supermicro site seems to work okay on my end in the USA

I'll install/update to 8988 FF00 only on a few Win10 x64 PCs and will not install 8988 on the Win7/8.x x64 PCs as that would result with the "windows cannot verify the publisher of this driver software" message on W7/W8 since 8988 is WHQL for Win10 x64 only - I'll continue to stay with 8978 on those few Win7/8.x systems that I have

RE: Realtek High Definition Audio Latest WHQL - chillgates - 09-23-2020

I always observe that FF00 gives more bass punch than UAD driver. Donno whats the reason for it. I use Fxsound DFX also.
