Elon Musk Follows Through With Radical Twitter Changes
In a Tweet, of course, Elon Musk announces a major change to the Twitter brand and social media landscape.
Elon Musk acquired Twitter in a controversial transaction that cost him $44 billion. He later merged the social media company into an entity called X Corp.
Musk is not shy about the changes he wants to make at the company. He's also now looking for anyone, literally anyone, to come up with a new logo, calling out for new designs for X logos on his Twitter account. “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow,” Musk tweeted.
Musk announced that the branded light blue bird would be bidding good-bye. The Twitter blue bird is one of the most recognizable assets of the company and an iconic logo.
"It should have been done a long time ago,” Musk said in a brief Twitter Spaces appearance, referring to changing the company's logo.
“We’re cutting the Twitter logo off the building with blowtorches,” he said. Everything he does is dramatic and with good reason. This comment is probably referring to the company's Twitter sign on the headquarters in San Francisco.
More Bold Changes Coming
Changing the most recognizable logo is usually a daunting task for an organization because it changes how consumers look at the product. However, in this case, Musk's takeover of Twitter has been widely publicized and his presence alone makes more readers take notice. It's unclear if the change will hurt Twitter.
Musk believes in making Twitter a subscription-based social media platform to boost the company's revenue.
Linda Yaccarino took over as CEO of Twitter in June and is working to mend relationships with advertisers.
Now Elon just updated the Twitter URL and is hinting at the new X logo.
