Trump looking to launch social media platform, adviser says

BY KATHRYN WATSON

Former President Trump is looking to launch his own social media platform in the months ahead, his senior adviser Jason Miller said Sunday on Fox News' "#MediaBuzz."

Miller told Fox News he couldn't say much more right now, but claimed "numerous companies" have approached the former president and he's held meetings on the subject at Mar-a-Lago. Miller suggested Mr. Trump's future social media platform will bring in "tens of millions of people."

"I do think that we're going to see President Trump returning to social media, probably in about two or three months here, with his own platform," Miller said on Fox News. "And this is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media, it's going to completely redefine the game, and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does."

Mr. Trump, who has been permanently banned from his preferred platform of Twitter since January, has been sending some tweet-like statements through his office to reporters. The former president was banned from the platform following the January 6 assault on the Capitol and Mr. Trump's false claims that the election was rigged.

The former president continues to incorrectly claim that he won, including in a statement on Saturday in which he claimed the election was "illegitimate."

It has been awhile but haven't seen it being launched. I'm curious in how many followers he will have once it is live.

I would imagine he would attract a huge userbase. Let's say half of his voters register on the site. That's about 37 million people.

The platform must stay afloat though and I doubt companies would be eager to advertise on his social media platform. Only NSFW ads turn up where companies don't dare to advertise. I assume Trump wouldn't want that so the only other way to maintain the site is by relying on donations. Which might just work.

I still don't know the purpose of the website. He is definitely not gonna be president, what's the donation for?

I am thinking he might run in 2024. So there's that. But either ways he attracted a lot of followers, he could probably share his thoughts and what he thinks is right. Some people are straight up obsessed with Trump so he has to speak to his followers somewhere I suppose.

I remember looking at DJT's website, and it looked like he'd rediscovered the blog.

I'll never understand govt. people depending on private, proprietary platforms for their announcements and stuff - seems rather unproffesional. DJT used twitter, got banned. UK parliament used private Whatsapp chats to do dodgy deals, they got leaked.

If I were king, I'd definitely self-host my official blog and sign everything with PGP (or equivalent), so people know it comes from the horse's mouth, and no-one can ban me. I'd also pump funding into decentralized communication platforms, like Tox, Delta.Chat, Matrix, so that everyone can communicate encrypted. Downside is bad guys will be able to, as well. Guess it would be my experiment - to see if this unbridled freedom would help people; probably a better political experiment than the usual political machinations.
