Sanity check: if I have to do a clean install, I just install as per normal from downloaded media while online and Microsoft's servers will recognize my hardware. Yes?

Yes M$ will recognize your hardware on next install and activate automatically. It won't happen when you change mother board or cpu like things. You can register using kms method without connecting internet.

You have No permissionsAfter a major hardware change you can redo the hwid process and generate a digital license if running the activation troubleshooter doesn't work. Make sure to install chipset and graphics driver before running hwidgen otherwise activation will fail
